Ukrainian Flour Millers Participate in International Seminar in Moldova

On 16 July, a delegation from the Union Millers of Ukrain” took part in an international seminar dedicated to the development and modernisation of the flour milling and baking industries. The event was held in Peresecina, Republic of Moldova. Ukrainian specialists joined the seminar at the invitation of the National Association of the Milling and Baking Industry of the Republic of Moldova, headed by Veaceslav Guțuleac. For many years, he has represented the interests of industry enterprises and has played an active role in professional discussions on the development of Moldova’s flour milling and baking sectors.

The seminar focused on harmonising flour quality standards with European requirements and introducing modern technologies in grain processing. Participants discussed laboratory control of grain and flour quality, mill modernisation, solutions for grain storage facilities, production energy efficiency, and the sector’s development prospects within the European market. Technological solutions were presented by Pakmaya, Bastak, IMAS, CSI Çukurova Silo İşletmeciliği of Türkiye, and OLIS LTD of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian delegation contributed substantial industry expertise to the discussions. Rodion Rybchynskyi, Director of the Union Millers of Ukraine and PhD in Engineering, delivered a presentation on current trends in the development of the flour milling industry and key areas of technological modernisation for milling enterprises.

Dmytro Zhygunov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Department of Grain Processing Technology, Bread and Confectionery at Odesa National University of Technology, focused his presentation on modern methods for assessing the quality of flour and key raw materials.

Serhii Sots, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Grain Business, Processing and Food Industry at Odesa National University of Technology, spoke about the training of specialists for the flour milling and baking industries at the university and the sector’s workforce needs.

As part of the seminar, Rodion Rybchynskyi held a working meeting with Vasile Șarban, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova, and Victor Poparcea, Investment Promotion Officer at Invest Moldova. The participants discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova in the context of European integration, including the harmonisation of sectoral requirements, professional exchange, and stronger cooperation between industry associations.

Rodion Rybchynskyi also invited Veaceslav Guțuleac, President of the National Association of the Milling and Baking Industry of the Republic of Moldova, representatives of the relevant ministry, and members of Moldova’s flour milling industry to attend the Grain and Processing 2026 Conference, which will take place in Odesa on 17–18 September.

For reference. In the 2025/26 marketing year, Moldova became the third-largest importer of Ukrainian grain processing products. Ukraine supplied 32.5 thousand tonnes of products to the country, including 19.4 thousand tonnes of wheat flour, 7.4 thousand tonnes of groats and pellets, 3.0 thousand tonnes of pasta and couscous, and 1.8 thousand tonnes of processed grain.
